Rue Barbare formed in Rennes in 2025 and drops its first demo on 13 February 2026: seven self-released tracks, from a city where Oi! and DIY punk have never stood down. The sound is raw and direct — guitars up front, a hammered mid-tempo, choruses built to be shouted back. Nothing new, but it lands. "Intro & Destin Brisé" opens with no let-up and sets the tone. The titles — "Aucune Valeur," "Faux Semblant," "Nuit Sans Lendemain" — circle social disillusion and urban fatalism, classic ground for the genre, in a vein that recalls Camera Silens or Lion's Law. "Sombre Écorce" eases off the tempo a touch; "Dead End Blokes," the only track in English, closes the demo with a nod to British Oi!. The vocals are suitably ragged and collective, no showing off. It's not all fully dialed in yet: the band sometimes searches for its identity between straight Oi! and broader street punk, and a few songs could stand to be tightened. But that's the whole point of a demo — catching a band in the raw. The rage and the energy are there. Rue Barbare is already gigging (l'Uzine in April, les Tanneries in Dijon in September with Bongo Kids and Revanche). A short, no-compromise opening salvo, well worth keeping an eye on.
