KOMINTERN SECT
DES JOURS PLUS DURS QUE D'AUTRES (2021) • 2026 VINYL REISSUE
FRENCH OI! / PUNK ROCK / STREET PUNK • ORLÉANS, FRANCE
REVIEW
When talking about KOMINTERN SECT, it's impossible not to think of the glory days of French Oi! in the 1980s. Alongside CAMERA SILENS, R.A.S. and REICH ORGASM, the band from Orléans helped shape an entire generation of French punk. After reforming in 2014, they had already proved with "D'une Même Voix" that they weren't simply back to play their old classics. And "Des Jours Plus Durs Que D'Autres", originally released in 2021, confirmed that they still had plenty of good songs left in them.
From the opening notes of "Comme un chien", that unmistakable KOMINTERN SECT sound is back: melodic guitars, driving rhythms and, above all, Carl's instantly recognisable voice. "Pas de limites" and "JFP" follow the same formula, with choruses that stick in your head after just a couple of listens. But the real standout is "Filles de France", a cracking piece of melodic punk rock. "Le son de la révolution" also throws in a few nods to classic British Oi!. Musically, this is closer to early CHARGE 69 or THE BUSINESS than to modern Oi! bands relying entirely on heaviness.
Sure, the production is much cleaner than on the old CHAOS PRODUCTIONS records, and not every song reaches the level of the band's greatest classics. But after so many years, hearing this kind of songwriting and those unmistakable singalong choruses is quite something. Special mention goes to the closing track, "Que restera-t-il de toi ?", which adds a more emotional dimension to the album. A really solid old-school Oi! punk record, proving that KOMINTERN SECT had lost none of their identity. And following Carl's passing in 2025, these recordings inevitably carry even greater emotional weight.
