BAD RELIGION - New Maps Of Hell Lp

Released in 2007 on Epitaph Records, New Maps Of Hell is BAD RELIGION's fourteenth studio album and easily one of the most energetic records of their modern era. Following The Empire Strikes First, the band puts its foot firmly back on the accelerator: short, fast songs, relentless drums, razor-sharp guitars and those instantly recognizable vocal harmonies.
From the 52-second opening track, the tone is set. BAD RELIGION wastes no time with « Heroes And Martyrs », « Germs Of Perfection » and especially the excellent « New Dark Ages ». It's classic BAD RELIGION territory: fast melodic hardcore, irresistible choruses and sharp lyrics questioning society, religion, conformity and a world seemingly determined to drive itself straight into the wall.
But New Maps Of Hell isn't simply a full-speed assault. « Before You Die » and especially « Honest Goodbye » bring a more melodic side to the record, while « Dearly Beloved », « Grains Of Wrath » and « The Grand Delusion » deliver that unmistakable BAD RELIGION combination of catchy melodies, soaring backing vocals and guitars that rarely let the pressure drop.
With 16 tracks packed into less than forty minutes, New Maps Of Hell clearly looks back to the band's roots while retaining the powerful sound of 2000s BAD RELIGION. It may not reinvent their formula, but that's hardly the point: this is BAD RELIGION doing what they do best — fast, intelligent, dark and incredibly effective melodic punk rock. « New Dark Ages », « Honest Goodbye », « Dearly Beloved » and closing track « Fields Of Mars » are more than enough to remind you why BAD RELIGION remain one of the essential names in punk rock.
