With "Sans Filtre", French band NO FILTER deliver an explosive combination of Oi!, punk rock and coldwave. Hailing from the Dauphiné region of France, this trio featuring musicians from the black metal scene unleash ten dark, energetic and incredibly catchy tracks. Originally released on cassette, the album finally received a vinyl edition in 2024 through AVANT! RECORDS. And what a shame it would have been to leave such a killer record trapped on magnetic tape!
From the opening track "Baston Générale", the atmosphere is immediately established: pounding rhythms, rough guitars, French-language vocals and icy synthesizers. NO FILTER pull off the impressive trick of combining the raw energy of traditional Oi! with the cold atmospheres of post-punk and new wave. Tracks such as "Sauvages", "La Haine Nous Appartient" and "Octogone" perfectly illustrate this unusual but highly effective formula. Imagine an unlikely meeting between THE 4 SKINS, NEW ORDER and the French cold Oi! scene represented by bands like SYNDROME 81 and BROMURE.
The lyrics deal with violence, friendship, wild nights, roots and disillusionment, with a sincerity that perfectly matches the record's atmosphere. Brutal, melancholic and incredibly infectious at the same time, "Sans Filtre" has a personality of its own. The synthesizers are far more than simple decoration: they give the songs a cold, hypnotic dimension that makes all the difference. An excellent cold Oi! record, dark, direct and uncompromising.
