REVIEW

Originally released in 1988 on Wassail Records and later reissued by EPITAPH RECORDS, "Liberal Animation" is the first proper studio album by NOFX. And it's a far cry from the catchy, melodic punk rock that would make the Californian band famous a few years later! This is raw, chaotic, fast and completely unhinged hardcore punk. A wild trip back to the messy early days of Fat Mike and his crew.

With tracks like "Shut Up Already", "Freedumb", "Beer Bong" and "Mr. Jones", NOFX deliver a relentless collection of frantic songs packed with rough riffs, unpredictable tempo changes and their already twisted sense of humour. Produced by Brett Gurewitz of BAD RELIGION, the album retains all the rawness of these early compositions. It's fast, messy, unpredictable and definitely not interested in sounding polished!

Often regarded as NOFX's most chaotic record, "Liberal Animation" still has an undeniable charm. It captures a band that was rough around the edges but already overflowing with energy, provocation and sarcastic humour. No skate punk anthems or massive singalong choruses yet: just wild, obnoxious and uncompromising hardcore punk. An essential listen for anyone wanting to explore the roots of NOFX, before "S&M Airlines", "Ribbed" and the breakthrough success of "Punk in Drublic". Early NOFX in all its raw, chaotic glory!
